Parking in Austin varies widely between a downtown garage and a side street in East Austin. This estimator uses district-level median rates to project what you will actually spend daily, monthly, and over a year, so you can compare a monthly contract against pay-as-you-go metered parking.
How it works
Each district carries two reference rates: a median monthly garage rate and a metered street rate per hour. Choose your parking style and the tool projects across a standard 22 working days per month and 12 months per year.
Monthly garage: monthly cost = district garage rate
daily cost = garage rate ÷ 22
annual cost = garage rate × 12
Street metered: daily cost = hours/day × street rate × surge
monthly cost = daily cost × days/month
annual cost = monthly cost × 12
The event surge multiplier applies only to the street-parking path so you can model festival and game-day pricing on the days it actually hits.
Example
Parking 8 hours a day at the downtown meter rate of 2.00 per hour for 22 days is 8 × 2.00 × 22 = 352 dollars a month, versus a 200 dollar monthly downtown garage — so the contract wins for daily commuters.
Notes
These are planning medians, not quotes from a specific operator. Free evening and Sunday windows are not deducted, and commercial parking can carry local taxes and operator surcharges on top of the list rate.
