Test your eye for AI image generators

Every major AI image generator has a personality. Midjourney gravitates toward dramatic, painterly beauty; DALL-E 3 follows prompts with literal precision and handles text and layout cleanly; Stable Diffusion is endlessly customisable but has a recognisable raw look in its default form. This quiz turns those tendencies into a game: read a description of an AI-generated image, guess which model made it, and learn the visual signatures that give each one away.

How it works

Each round presents a described image with its key characteristics and asks you to identify the most likely generator from three options. Submit your answer to reveal whether you were right, along with an explanation of the tell-tale signature that pointed to that model. Your score accumulates across all rounds, and at the end you see a percentage plus the signatures worth revisiting. It runs entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded or stored.

Tips for spotting the model

Look first at the overall aesthetic: heavy artistic flourish and cinematic lighting lean Midjourney, while clean literalism and accurate in-image text lean DALL-E 3. Check prompt adherence — if every element of a complex scene is present and correctly placed, that favours DALL-E 3’s strong instruction-following. A more uneven, sometimes uncanny default render with strong community-style influences often points to Stable Diffusion. Remember these are heuristics for default outputs: custom fine-tunes, style prompts, and post-processing can blur the lines, so the goal is informed reasoning rather than certainty.
