The acre and the hectare are the two most common units for measuring land area worldwide. The acre is used in the United States, the United Kingdom and other imperial-system countries, while the hectare is the metric standard used across Europe, agriculture and most of the world. This free converter translates between them instantly, in both directions, for farmers, surveyors, estate agents and students.
How it works
The conversion uses the exact internationally defined factor:
1 acre = 0.4046856422 hectares
To convert acres to hectares, multiply the number of acres by 0.4046856422. To go the other way, divide hectares by that factor (equivalently, multiply by 2.4710538). Type a value into either field and the opposite field updates in real time.
Example
Convert a 10-acre field to hectares:
10 × 0.4046856422 = 4.0469 hectares
So a 10-acre plot is just over 4 hectares.
| Acres (ac) | Hectares (ha) |
|---|---|
| 1 ac | 0.404686 ha |
| 10 ac | 4.0469 ha |
| 100 ac | 40.4686 ha |
| 1000 ac | 404.6856 ha |
